Statement
I was born
in Princeton, NJ in autumn of 1986. As a child, I was
encouraged by my parents to dive into the pool of my
imagination and explore the wonderful worlds of art,
literature and music. Growing up, I learned to
appreciate many different expressions of creativity: the
shadows and softness of Edward Hopper; the poetry and
complexity of Vladimir Nabokov; the humor and genius of
Groucho Marx; the perfection and clarity of Frank
Sinatra. Through my artwork, I have found my own quirky
way of paying homage to my favorite movies, music, books
and artists: with puns. Looking at my body of work as a
whole, one would realize that the visual styles of the
paintings are all different: some are flat and simple;
some detailed and delicate; some striking and bold. What
ties them all together as a distinctive style is the
literate humor.
As an art history major in college, I learned even more
about the magnificent artists that have come before me.
Though I have no formal training in painting or drawing,
I was determined to follow in their footsteps and become
a professional artist. I started selling my artwork in
2004, when I was 17 years old. Ever since then, I have
been enjoying the laughter in the voices and the smiles
on the faces of people who appreciate my work. |
